A long-running Star Wars theory tying The Mandalorian to the new animated series Maul - Shadow Lord has been knocked down in the first two episodes. The idea that the Armorer and were the same person looked plausible for years online, but the new show moves in a different direction fast.

voices Rook Kast, a Mandalorian from the planet Mandalore who worked with ’s during the Clone Wars and helped him build operations on Janix outside the Galactic Empire’s control. She was one of the first Mandalorians to pledge loyalty to Maul after he killed in a duel, and she even painted her beskar armor in Maul’s colors.

That detail fed a theory that spread widely after The Mandalorian Visual Guide teased the idea with a Shadow Collective reference and called the helmet’s horns “Faux cranial horns, a reminder of the past.” Fans also pointed to the Armorer’s red armor, her recognition of the Jedi as enemies of Mandalore and her place in the , whose code requires helmets to stay on at all times. But the first two episodes of Maul - Shadow Lord, now streaming on , quickly undercut the matchup.

The series is the latest animated Star Wars story to spin out of The Clone Wars and Rebels, and Rook Kast’s role is still expanding as she works with Maul on Janix. The Armorer, by contrast, has not been confirmed to return to Star Wars anytime soon. For now, the theory that linked them has been answered: Rook Kast is not the Armorer, and Maul - Shadow Lord makes that clear early.
