Maul — Shadow Lord is heading into its final stretch next week, but fans of Darth Maul may not be waiting long for the next chapter. Sam Witwer, who returns to voice the character, said in a recent interview that Season 2 will not keep audiences waiting “too, too long.”
Witwer told The Direct that the follow-up is already in motion, saying, “We’ve been working on it for a while, and it’s interesting.” That is the clearest sign yet that Maul - Shadow Lord Season 2 is moving ahead as the Disney+ series prepares to close out its first run with its final two episodes.
The timing matters because the show only began airing last month, yet Disney renewed it for a second season around the same time it reached viewers. That kind of early vote of confidence is rare, and it suggests the company saw enough momentum in the series to extend it before the first season had even played out. For a Star Wars title built around one of the franchise’s most recognizable villains, the move also signals a bet that Maul still has room to drive a story on streaming after years away from live-action screens.
There is one thing Disney has not said: when Season 2 will actually arrive. Witwer’s comments point to a shorter wait than fans might fear, but he stopped well short of giving a date. That gap leaves the show in a familiar Star Wars place — a confirmed future, a closing first season and no timetable yet for the next phase.
That is why next week’s finale now does double duty. It will end the season, but it will also set the table for what comes after, with Witwer’s remarks making clear that Maul’s story is not being left in limbo for long.
