Sabrina Carpenter traded her signature honey blonde hair for a much darker brunette wig in a new Perfect Magazine shoot on Tuesday, April 7, wearing her hair straight with short bangs cut above her eyebrows. The look was finished with a black manicure and soft makeup — rosy cheeks, light pink lips and mascara — in images styled by fashion editor Katie Eleanor Grand and photographed by Bryce Anderson.
Carpenter said she loves to play dress up, and the shoot gave her room to do exactly that. She said the session was fun because she and the team got to try looks she had never worn before, including lots of wigs, different makeup and shapes she would not normally choose, adding that it let her play a little more with editorial and that it was really fun.
The dark makeover lands just days before she is scheduled to headline Coachella on Friday, April 10, and again on April 17. Carpenter said she had manifested the gig two years ago while performing on the same stage, and now calls the return surreal because it lets her celebrate the songs that have come since then and the lives those songs have lived.
That Coachella run also comes with a blunt reminder from Carpenter about the difference between the woman in the spotlight and the one who walks offstage. She said there is a button when she is performing, and that she has always been able to tell when she gets off stage: “I am a human being,” she said. “I’m a 26-year-old girl. I’m hormonal. I’m emotional. I’m dealing with a lot of stuff.”
For now, the sabrina carpenter hair transformation is less about a permanent switch than a sharp editorial turn, one that fits the mood of the magazine shoot and the week before her biggest festival set of the year.
