guthrie update: TMZ received two ransom notes on April 6 that claimed Nancy Guthrie was seen alive in Sonora, Mexico. The notes came from an anonymous source and added new alleged sighting claims in the missing-person case. Savannah Guthrie returned to Today the same day.
Nancy Guthrie Notes
One note allegedly said Nancy Guthrie is now dead. The first note reportedly demanded one bitcoin and complained that the sender had been ignored as a scam. The second note reportedly asked for half a bitcoin in exchange for information.
Harvey Levin said on TMZ Live on Monday, April 6: "We got another letter today from this person, an email saying, ‘I know where her body is, and who the kidnapper is, give me half a bitcoin and I’ll tell you,'"
The anonymous sender also wrote, "It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of february [sic] for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam," and "They are free and the case is frozen but the ego’s [sic] remain hot when it comes to me. Arrogance at it’s [sic] finest."
Sonora Claim April 6
The second note said, "I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora Mexico" and added, "I just want whats [sic] fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly with out [sic] having to join a witness protection program," according to the message sent to TMZ. The notes landed as the case continued with no public arrests and no publicly identified motive.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on January 31 when Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni dropped her off at her Catalina Foothills home. She did not attend a streaming church service the next morning, and a friend alerted the family. The family has offered up to $1 million in reward money, and authorities have not made any arrests.
Savannah Guthrie Return
Savannah Guthrie returned to Today on April 6 after taking several weeks off. The new ransom notes arrived the same day, putting fresh attention on the claims about Nancy Guthrie’s location and the money demands attached to them.
