Denver is getting an early jump on May the fourth with a cluster of events on May 2 and May 3, from library crafts to a beer release to a themed 5K. The calendar stretches across Edgewater, east Denver, Westminster and Golden before the unofficial holiday arrives on May 4.

At the Star Wars Celebration on Saturday, May 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1800 Harlan Street, members of the 501st Legion will be on hand as kids are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character and enjoy treats and crafts. A few hours later, at 7101 East Colfax Avenue will begin Star Wars Day at 2 p.m. Saturday and keep it going through midnight Sunday, with a new black IPA called Maltering the Deal, limited edition glassware featuring the Cantina band, and the Modal Nodes, flash-tattoos from and snacks from . The glassware goes on sale at noon Saturday while supplies last.

The weekend then shifts to Westminster for the May the Fourth Be with You 5K on Sunday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at Frolic Brewing, 12910 Zuni Street. The run starts and ends at Frolic Brewing Company, where a free local craft brew will be waiting at the finish line, and runners are encouraged to wear Jedi or dark-side attire for a chance to win extra beer and prizes at the post-race festivities. Later that day, Golden Library will host May the Fourth be With You…a Day Early from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 1019 10th Street.

The spread of events shows how May the Fourth celebrations have moved beyond a single day and into the weekend before it. That gives fans more chances to show up in costume, buy the themed glassware, or run before the holiday itself arrives.
