Disney+ has published a new guide, Star Wars Characters You Need To Know, that introduces 19 icons from the saga and points viewers to a must-watch scene for each. The list ranges from Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader and ties directly into the service’s May the 4th watchlist.
The guide does more than name the familiar faces. It sends readers to the official Star Wars Databank entry for each character and folds in a preview of the new Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, giving newcomers a shortcut into a franchise that has grown dense enough to need its own map.
Darth Vader is the clearest example of how the guide works. Mark Hamill plays Luke in both the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, making him one of the clearest through-lines in the franchise’s long history.
Leia Organa is presented as both princess of Alderaan and rebel leader, introduced in A New Hope hiding the Death Star plans from the boarding Imperials before standing her ground against Vader aboard the Tantive IV. Carrie Fisher plays Leia in the original trilogy and later returns to the saga in the sequel trilogy. The guide also points viewers to her daring escape from Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back as one of the scenes worth revisiting.
The timing matters because May the 4th has become the franchise’s annual viewing moment, and Disney+ is using it to make the series less intimidating for first-time viewers while still giving longtime fans an easy rewatch path.
