Bridgerton has added three new cast members for its upcoming fifth season, with Tega Alexander set to play Christopher Anderson, Jacqueline Boatswain cast as Helen Stirling and Gemma Knight Jones as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth. Filming on Season 5 is already underway in London.
Christopher Anderson, a Regency-era Casanova and the son of Lord Anderson, is written with a cheeky facade that hides a current of self-doubt. Helen Stirling, Michaela Stirling’s mother, will be trying to guide and sometimes push her daughter through London’s social season, while Lady Elizabeth Ashworth arrives as an old friend, confidante and guide to Michaela in the city.
The new additions land as Season 5 moves into the story of Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, after Netflix and Shondaland chose Francesca for the season. The eight-episode run is being overseen by showrunner and executive producer Jess Brownell, with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and Chris Van Dusen also serving as executive producers.
Season 5 centers on Francesca after the death of her husband John and her return to the marriage mart for practical reasons, while Michaela comes back to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate. The series is already looking ahead, too: Eloise Bridgerton will follow Francesca as the lead for Season 6. For now, the casting gives the next chapter a clearer shape, and Christopher Anderson Bridgerton looks set to be one of the season’s sharper new presences.
