Monroe Cannon turned 15 on April 30, marking a milestone for one of Mariah Carey’s twins and for a family story that has played out in public for more than a decade. Carey welcomed Monroe and her twin brother, Moroccan, on April 30, 2011, with ex-husband Nick Cannon.
Carey and Cannon met at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, married in 2008 in a seaside ceremony at her Bahamian estate and announced the birth of Moroccan and Monroe in April 2011. Monroe was born first and was named with a nod to Marilyn Monroe; Moroccan arrived shortly after. The twins have since joined Carey on stage, and Monroe began modeling in 2021 in a campaign for OshKosh B’Gosh.
The 15th birthday arrives against the backdrop of a family that has remained visible even after Carey and Cannon separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. Moroccan also marked Carey’s Mother’s Day in 2024 with an Instagram post filled with throwback photos and a tribute that called her love and support a guide through hard times. In another post, he joked about his height while posing for a photo, saying he had to do the splits because he was tall.
The private details matter because the children have grown up alongside their mother’s career and their father’s increasingly large family. Cannon is now the father of 12 children with several women, while Carey’s twins have continued to appear with her publicly, on stage and on social media. Monroe’s 15th birthday closes one chapter for the family, but the years have already shown that Carey’s children are likely to keep appearing where their mother’s life meets her work.
