Lee Pace says Foundation season 4 is already shooting in Prague, and he is promising that the next run of episodes will take the Apple TV sci-fi epic in a new direction. Pace said the series is “in the middle of shooting season 4,” adding that the show is getting “more bonkers every season” and that this installment is “really cool.”
That matters because Foundation has already run 30 episodes across three seasons, and the last chapter ended with the true identity of the Mule being revealed and the deaths of Demerzel and Brother Day at the hands of Dusk. Pace’s return strongly suggests Brother Day will be back in some form, even after what looked like a fatal ending.
Foundation, adapted from Isaac Asimov’s novel series of the same name, was developed by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman and follows a far-future Empire as the Foundation tries to preserve human knowledge and innovation. Pace, along with Jared Harris, Lou Llobell and Cherry Jones, has been part of the cast through the show’s three-season run, and he said the story is still moving larger. “The story gets bigger,” he said, adding that the new season adds “a whole other dimension” for viewers who have been with the series from the start.
The tension for the show is that its biggest gains have also come with some of its sharpest resets. Season 3 closed on a major reveal and two key deaths, but Pace’s comments point to a season 4 that is not stopping to mourn its old shape. Instead, it is widening the board again, with filming now underway in Prague and the next phase of the story already in motion.
For Foundation, that means season 4 is not being framed as a reset so much as an expansion. Pace said he is “having a great time shooting it,” and his remarks make clear the new season is aiming to build on the scale, cast and mythology that have defined the series since its debut.
