The Boys Season 5 gives Annie, better known as Starlight, an unexpected family reunion in Episode 4 when she visits the father who walked away after regretting that he allowed his daughter to be given Compound V and gain superpowers. The man at the center of the scene is played by Tim Daly.
The payoff is not a fight or a twist, but a pep talk. Annie’s father and daughter are reunited in the episode, and he ends the exchange by trying to steady her rather than explain himself away.
For viewers, the casting lands as a tidy piece of fan service. Daly has long been identified with Superman, having voiced the character in Superman: The Animated Series and in several animated films over the years, which makes his turn in The Boys easy to read as an Easter egg for anyone who catches the voice first.
That reaction has already started to surface among fans, with some saying they did not have Superman showing up in The Boys Season 5 on their bingo card, while others joked that you would recognize his voice before you recognize him. One viewer put it more bluntly: it might help if you closed your eyes when he talks.
The joke works because The Boys has always treated superhero mythology as something to be mocked, pushed and broken apart, and Superman remains the clearest parody target for Homelander. Daly’s appearance leans into that joke without turning the scene into a punchline.
It also fits a career that has stretched back to Wings in 1990, long before this particular detour into a superhero satire. In Episode 4, though, the point is narrower: Annie is finally face to face with the father who left, and the episode gives them something more fragile than reconciliation, a brief attempt at grace.
The Boys continues weekly on Prime Video, and this is one of those moments that may matter less for what it changes in the plot than for how cleanly it lands with viewers who know exactly who Tim Daly is the second he starts speaking.
