That response fits a point Hayek has been making for more than a year: aging, she says, freed her from being trapped by the parts Hollywood expected her to play. In 1996, she was cast as the seductive vampire queen in From Dusk Till Dawn, and last year in March she told Marie Claire that age saved her from being typecast. “There was a time when I was the sexy girl, but thank God age came and gave me the ability to expand to other territories,” she said.
Hayek has also been direct about how she handles the gray itself. In a Vogue video last June, she said she does not dye her hair. “Okay, now I took this thing out because I also do makeup on the hair. I do not dye my hair,” she said, adding that she uses mascara or a root touch-up brush if she does not like the white strands. She also said, “You have to change your makeup and beauty routine as you get older.”
