Daredevil and Kingpin are heading for another fight in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and Vincent D'Onofrio says the clash will feel a lot like the old Netflix series that first made their rivalry a headline act. The upcoming showdown is the third physical confrontation between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk across the original series and the Disney+ revival, and the first since the revival began.
D'Onofrio said the scene is “very reminiscent” of the original Netflix run, adding that he loves the scenes where he gets to work opposite Charlie Cox. He said the pair hardly ever get to do scenes together, but when they do, Cox has become “so good” at playing Matt Murdock that it is a thrill to share them.
The fight matters because these two have spent most of their rivalry moving through politics, power plays and hired muscle rather than trading blows. Fisk is now mayor of New York in the revival, and marketing for Season 2 has already shown at least one sequence of him facing Daredevil in black suit combat. Fisk has also been training in the boxing ring, a sign he is meant to look more dangerous than a desk-bound villain when the two finally collide.
Their last physical battle goes back to the Season 1 finale of the Netflix show, when Daredevil cornered Fisk while he was on the run from police and won. Since then, the characters have been locked in a seven-year non-fighting streak that has made every direct encounter feel more loaded. D'Onofrio said fans want them together, but added that bringing them together too often would drain the power from the story.
That is the tension now in Season 2: the show has to pay off years of buildup without flattening the rivalry into routine. Fisk already declared Matt Murdock missing to the city after learning his secret, and the next confrontation will test whether their relationship still works because of restraint, not in spite of it.
