A 3-year-old California boy barely made it to the batter’s box after Kendrick Lamar started playing at his Little League debut. Melissa Roque shared the video of her son Vince on March 12, and the clip has since drawn more than 3.5 million views.
In the TikTok, Vince swayed to “tv off” as he walked up for the plate, then appeared to drift past it and nearly forget he was supposed to bat. Roque told News that Vince plays for West End Little League in San Bernardino, California, and said he “is always known for being such a character.”
Roque said the moment captured exactly who her son is, especially because it was his first game. “This clip was his very first game so his walk up song completely distracted him from the game as he is a fan of Kendrick Lamar music!” she said.
The viral moment has turned a family sideline video into a small sports story with a wider pull: a toddler so taken by his own intro music that the game had to wait. Roque also credited Vince’s confidence to his coach Carlos and Carlos’s wife Araceli, who helped set the tone for his first Little League appearance.
For Vince, the clip is a snapshot of an opening day he seemed to enjoy more than he understood. For everyone else, it is the sort of unscripted moment that travels fast because it feels familiar, even when it happens to a 3-year-old in San Bernardino.
