said at that an R-rated animated feature film based on Bloodborne is in the works, with , better known as Jacksepticeye, producing the project. The announcement suggests the Bloodborne movie is headed for theaters.

That is a notable return for one of PlayStation’s most beloved gothic horror games, which first arrived in 2015 as a exclusive from . The source frames the new film as a comeback for a title that has been absent from the spotlight for 11 years.

Bloodborne is set in the fantastical Victorian city of Yharnam after an unspeakable tragedy, where a monstrous plague turns much of the population into deranged zombified townsfolk, werewolf-like creatures and other horrors. Players control one of the mostly wiped-out Hunters, trying to bring order to a city already collapsing around them.

The new film now has to translate that grim world into animation without losing what made the game stand out in the first place: atmosphere, menace and scale. Sony has given no further details in the announcement, but the Cinemacon reveal makes one thing plain — Bloodborne is finally coming back, and this time it is coming to the screen.
