Marvel Rivals is heading into its second anniversary later this year with a bigger ambition for 2026: move beyond standard 6v6 PvP and build out new PvE-focused gameplay around Path to Doomsday. The game’s developers said the update stream will add new modes and themed content while keeping the title multiplayer at its core.
Guangyun Chen said the goal is to shift the game from being “just a shooter” to a comprehensive Marvel “moving anime” experience, and said the team is moving beyond standard 6v6 PvP. Path to Doomsday will serve as one of the main thematic drivers for 2026 and will include five MCU-related updates inspired by the Infinity Saga.
The scope matters because Marvel Rivals has already spent the past year broadening its reach with more heroes, more game modes and more content on the way. The new plans push that formula further, and Chen said the team’s current roadmap already maps out content through 2027.
Chen also pointed to the size of the Marvel roster as the reason the game can keep expanding. With over 9,000 Marvel characters to draw from, he said, the developers are not worried about running out of options soon. Path to Doomsday is tied to Avengers: Doomsday, which gives the 2026 rollout a clear anchor as the game shifts from a single-style shooter into something wider.
For players, the next step is not a mystery about direction but a matter of timing. The developers said they are only sharing high-level teaser information for now, and more details on the specific updates are coming soon.
