Brandin Podziemski had no hesitation when asked about Connor McDavid. The Warriors guard and Oilers fan said Wednesday there is nobody quite like the Edmonton captain, then drew a direct line to the player he watches every night in San Francisco, Stephen Curry.
Speaking to Sportsnet’s Gene Principe during Edmonton’s 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center, Podziemski said McDavid’s on-ice ability is the kind of talent you can try to copy but never truly match. He added that the same goes for Curry, saying he sees plenty of similarities between the two stars because of what he gets to watch from the Warriors guard every day.
“Just the things [McDavid is] able to do on the ice, you can try to emulate and replicate him as much as you want, but there’s just nobody like him,” Podziemski said. “The same thing with Steph. I get to see it every day. A lot of comparisons there.”

The comments landed on a night when Edmonton was handling business on the ice, beating San Jose 5-2 at SAP Center. For Podziemski, the conversation was less about a single game than about what separates true franchise players from everyone else: the speed, control and imagination that make McDavid and Curry the rare stars other athletes point to when they are trying to explain greatness.
That is also why the comparison matters. Podziemski is not speaking in the abstract. He is a Warriors guard who has studied Curry up close and an Oilers fan who has followed McDavid from the other side of the sport. His praise reflects the way elite talent can look familiar even when it comes in different uniforms, on different surfaces and in different cities. The challenge, as Podziemski made clear, is that there is still no real imitation for either one.

What he said Wednesday leaves little ambiguity: McDavid and Curry belong in the same conversation because both do things that other players can only chase, never catch.
