Steve Zahn has joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ forthcoming romantic comedy Hello & Paris, adding another name to a film that already stars Javier Bardem and Kate Hudson. The project is in production and will get a worldwide streaming release on Prime Video.
Hello & Paris centers on a landscape architect and a best-selling but embattled novelist whose first meeting in Paris is prickly before they begin trading books and recipes while living on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The film is loosely inspired by Deborah McKinlay’s 2014 novel That Part Was True and comes from writer-director Elizabeth Chomko, who also wrote the script.
The casting update gives the movie another familiar face as it moves through production, but the basic shape of the release plan is already set: Prime Video will carry it globally, while Legendary Entertainment’s 193 handled international sales. Fifth Season is behind the project, with Finola Dwyer among its producers.
That puts Hello & Paris squarely in the lane of the kind of relationship comedy it most closely resembles. It is being described in the same vein as Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail, films that turn distance, timing and conversation into the engine of the story rather than just the backdrop.
For Bardem, Hudson and now Zahn, the next marker is not another announcement but the finish line in production. Once cameras wrap, the movie’s long-range appeal will rest on whether Chomko can turn a bookish cross-Atlantic romance into something with the warmth and bite its setup promises.
