Akylas will represent greece at Eurovision 2026 with “Ferto,” a song he has said is about greed, overconsumption and the relentless desire for more in modern society. The self-taught musician, already popular at home for his hit single “Atelié,” is set to perform in the first semi-final on Tuesday 12 May.
“I’m Akylas, I’m from Greece, and music has basically been my language for as long as I can remember,” he said of the entry. “Ferto” also looks inward: Akylas said the track contrasts material ambition with emotional needs, while honoring the sacrifices his mother made and his own path out of childhood financial struggle.
The song’s sound mirrors that split. It mixes traditional Greek influences with video game effects and the sharp “kerching” of cash registers opening, a choice that ties the performance to the same themes of consumption and greed that drive the lyrics. The Independent described Akylas as already popular in Greece before Eurovision, a head start that gives him a larger domestic audience than many first-time contestants.
That popularity matters because Eurovision is as much about momentum as it is about spectacle. Akylas arrives with a song built around a clear idea and a built-in fan base, and Greece will learn on Tuesday whether that combination can carry him through the first semi-final and into the final round.
