Diamond Brown filed a paternity suit against Chris Brown on April 3 over their 4-year-old daughter, Lovely, asking the court for legal and physical custody while seeking visitation for the two-time Grammy winner. Brown also attached a voluntary declaration from 2022 in which Chris Brown acknowledged paternity, a filing that puts the pair’s long-running dispute back in court even after he has repeatedly acknowledged the child publicly.
The filing matters now because it comes just weeks after Chris Brown welcomed his fourth child in April, his first with Jada Wallace, and amid another round of public noise around his private life. Brown has already acknowledged Lovely multiple times since her birth in 2022, including a social media post a few months after Lovely was born that was widely taken as confirmation he was her father, and a photo of him at her first birthday party. The new filing asks the court to make formal what has long been treated informally: that Lovely’s custody and visitation should be set in writing.
The case also lands against a messy backdrop of mutual accusations. Diamond Brown said on Instagram Story that Chris Brown threatened her new partner. Wallace later pushed back, writing that Diamond was “Tryna air business out like you not the one that's stopping him from seeing his daughter.” Diamond Brown, for her part, also posted, “Get off social media bitch,” and “Wait till that baby come out. I’ll whoop your ass fr.” She later said she briefly halted visitation after Chris Brown allegedly confronted the parents of his daughter’s friend.
That is the friction point in this dispute: both sides have already behaved as if Lovely’s paternity was settled, yet the legal filing shows the parents have not settled the basic terms of custody and access. Brown’s public acknowledgment of Lovely, paired with the 2022 declaration, makes the paternity issue hard to dispute; what remains is who gets to decide where the child lives, and how visitation will work going forward. Chris Brown also has two older children, daughter Royalty, 11, with Nia Guzman, and son Aeko, 6, with Ammika Harris.
