Universal will release the second trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on Monday night, and the preview will debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The studio also released a new image of Nolan filming the movie with an IMAX camera, along with additional behind-the-scenes photos and new images from the film itself.
The release puts fresh attention on a project built around Matt Damon as Odysseus, the warrior trying to find his way home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway plays Penelope, Tom Holland plays Telemachus, and the film also stars Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie and John Leguizamo. Odysseus must go through hell to get back to his wife and son, and the new images lean into that scale.
The studio’s latest batch of photos offers a clearer look at how Nolan is shooting the film, with the IMAX camera front and center. It also gives audiences their first extended look at the cast assembled around Damon’s Odysseus, a lineup that suggests a large ensemble rather than a straight retelling of the familiar myth.
That is the tension built into this rollout: the marketing is arriving in pieces, but the film itself is still months away. The new trailer lands Monday night, and The Odyssey opens July 17.
