Pablo Torre Finds Out won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting on Monday for its investigation into allegations that the Los Angeles Clippers arranged a no-work endorsement deal for Kawhi Leonard to get around NBA salary-cap rules.
The reporting centered on a four-year, $28 million contract with Aspiration that Torre said Leonard allegedly received as part of a no-show job intended to circumvent the cap. The award lands months after the story broke in September 2025 and after the NBA said it had opened an investigation into the Clippers.
Torre, who joined Meadowlark Media in 2023 to launch Pablo Torre Finds Out after previous stints at Sports Illustrated and, said the team was honored to be named the winner of the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting. For a podcast built around long-form reporting, the prize marked a rare sports-related win in one of journalism’s most respected categories.
The Clippers denied breaking any rules, but the allegation has never gone away. In April, reported that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called the probe “enormously complex” and said interviews were ongoing, underscoring that the league had not closed the book on a case that now carries both competitive and reputational stakes.
That is what makes the Pulitzer matter today: the investigation is still live as of May 2026, and the podcast that triggered it has now been recognized at the highest level. Torre’s story did more than land a headline. It forced the league to answer for whether a deal outside the usual salary framework was used to shape one of the NBA’s most scrutinized rosters.
