announced on May 2 that her next studio album, , will arrive June 5, and the reveal landed with a blunt challenge to listeners: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! To celebrate I present to you — MY NEW ALBUM 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶ COMING JUNE 5TH. Wanna get me a gift? Pre-order my album baby!!!!”

The announcement also came with cover art featuring a hand giving the middle finger — and Lizzo said the hand is hers. But the image drew fast backlash online, where fans and critics called the artwork bland, empty and needlessly provocative, even as some supporters praised her brazen new musical era. One fan wrote, “Sister…..this concept…..is a choice,” while another said, “Lizzo I love you but this cover is terrible.”

The criticism sharpened from there. One critic wrote, “This has to be one of the worst covers I've ever seen,” and another said, “I’ve never seen such a tacky album cover and title.” The reaction matters because it turns what was meant to be a bold rollout for Lizzo into a debate over whether shock still works when it feels thin.

That tension is familiar in pop music, where album art can do as much talking as the songs themselves. But in this case, the cover appears to have become the story before the music has even arrived, with fans split between those who see attitude and those who see a concept that does not land. Photos from show KATSEYE, Lizzo and more, offering a reminder that she remains a high-visibility figure even when the conversation turns critical.

For now, the next date that matters is June 5, when BITCH is set to come out. Until then, Lizzo has succeeded in getting attention — but not the kind every album launch wants.
