is winding the main story down, but the latest stretch is also doing something else: it is quietly laying track for Rising, the Soldier Boy spinoff now aiming for a 2027 release. By the time the new episode arrives, the franchise has already pointed to four supes who are expected to matter in the prequel series.

That setup matters because Vought Rising is not just another extension of the same universe. It is set in the 1950s and will follow Soldier Boy and as it digs into the origins of Vought through a twisted murder mystery format. is set to reprise Stormfront, who goes by Liberty in that timeline, while the cast also includes as Bombsight and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. Dye is best known for playing Jason in Stranger Things Season 4, and Posey has had minor roles in Euphoria and Heels as well as a part in the 2021 film Dreamcatcher.

The clearest hint came in Season 5, Episode 3, when says the supe virus does not work on Soldier Boy and mentions other names tied to V1, the original and especially potent version of Compound V. Stormfront is the only one in that list viewers already know, and the mention of Bombsight points directly to the same V1 group that Vought Rising is expected to explore. The show’s current season is ending its own story, but it is also seeding the characters that will carry the next one.

Stormfront’s arc gives that tease extra weight. In , she is a secondary antagonist, begins a romance with Homelander and is later revealed to be a Nazi. In Season 3, she takes her own life. Bringing her back in Vought Rising does not undo that history; it simply moves the story to an earlier era, before the collapse that audiences already know. That is the tension at the heart of the spinoff: it promises a fresh case to solve, but the audience already knows where some of the players end up.

The result is that The Boys Season 5 is doing double duty. It is closing the main series while handing the next chapter a cast, a timeline and a mystery to work with. The only real question left is not whether Vought Rising has been set up, but how much of the company’s beginning the spinoff will be willing to expose when it arrives in 2027.
