Thousands of West Michigan residents were without power Monday afternoon as strong winds swept across the region, with outages reported most heavily in Kalamazoo, Ottawa and Allegan counties. A Wind Advisory remained in effect through 8 p.m. for all of West Michigan, and gusts of 40 to 55 mph were possible immediately behind showers and storms.
As of 4:50 p.m., nearly 19,000 Michigan residents were affected by the outages. Consumers Energy provided an outage map for people checking the status of restoration, as the power losses were tied directly to the high winds moving through West Michigan. The company’s map was the main public tool for tracking where crews were restoring service.
The outage pattern matched the weather warning, with the hardest-hit counties lining up with the strongest wind impacts. Kalamazoo County, Ottawa County and Allegan County accounted for most of the reported losses, and the advisory kept the threat active into the evening. Consumers Energy’s live map offered the clearest answer to the question residents were asking: where the power stood and whether service was coming back.
