Andrea Newman is leaving Chicago Fire after 14 seasons, ending a run that stretched from the show’s pilot through her three-year stretch as showrunner. Victor Teran, who has been with the drama since Season 10, has been named executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming 15th season.
Newman joined Chicago Fire after the pilot as a co-executive producer, was promoted to executive producer in Season 6 and became co-showrunner alongside series co-creator Derek Haas in 2021. Two years later, she took over as sole showrunner and has led the series through its past three seasons.
In a statement, Newman said working on the show with its cast and crew had been the highlight of her career. She said she had been inspired to get into TV writing because of Dick Wolf and said she was grateful to Wolf, Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill, Anastasia Puglisi, Haas, NBC and Universal executives for their support. Newman also said that after 14 years, the production had become family and would always feel like home.
Jankowski said he was sad to see Newman go and said she had been at the center of the heart and soul of Chicago Fire since the beginning. He said the show thrived under her watch and added that he was grateful for her commitment to developing the next generation, while expressing confidence that the series will be in good hands with Teran taking the reins.
Teran’s promotion follows a long path of his own on the franchise. He started his career in independent film, later worked as a production executive and vice president of physical production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, and produced, wrote and directed indie films including Filly Brown and Snap. He began writing for television in 2018, developed the limited series LA84 before joining Chicago Fire as a staff writer and has been part of the show since Season 10.
The change comes as NBC’s OneChicago franchise heads into another cycle of renewal. All three Chicago series have been renewed for the 2026-27 season, giving the new leadership on Chicago Fire a confirmed runway as the show enters its 15th season. For Newman, the exit closes a defining chapter; for Teran, it opens one with an established audience and a franchise that still has momentum.
