Kaley Cuoco and tom pelphrey paid tribute on Sunday to Ruby, the dog Cuoco adopted after seeing her during a shelter TV segment years ago, after the pet died. Cuoco wrote on Instagram on April 19 that Ruby had crossed the rainbow bridge, while Pelphrey said the family had to say goodbye to her yesterday.
Cuoco said she had had Ruby for so many years that she had truly lost count, adding that they had been through so much together and that Ruby remained the sweetest little angel snowball. Pelphrey said Ruby lived an amazing life and passed on peacefully as a very old lady.
Cuoco said she first saw Ruby while doing a TV segment at the East Valley shelter a very long time ago, when she was asked to hold the dog during the taping. She said she went back the next day and adopted Ruby, calling it the best decision she ever made. She also shared photos of Ruby through the years, including one with Pelphrey holding the dog and another showing their three-year-old daughter, Matilda, patting her.
The tribute lands after Cuoco has already talked publicly about another painful pet decision. In 2024, she said she rehomed her dog Shirley because of repeated fights with Pelphrey's German Shepherd, Blue, and later said Shirley died after a battle with a very aggressive bone cancer. That history gave Sunday’s posts extra weight: Cuoco and Pelphrey were not just remembering a pet, but closing the door on a family story that had stretched across years.
Pelphrey said Ruby, also known as Snowball and Ruby from the Block, was as angelic in temperament as appearance, though she did not suffer fools gladly and punched well above her weight class. Cuoco’s post and Pelphrey’s reply leave little doubt about how central Ruby was to their home. The question now is not whether the dog was loved; it is how a family that built so much around her adjusts to life without her.
