Paramount released the official trailer for Street Fighter on Thursday, giving the long-running Capcom fighting-game franchise its first full look on film with Jason Momoa among the actors leading the charge. The studio rolled out the footage with Legendary ahead of their CinemaCon presentation, where the movie is set to be shown to cinema executives.
Momoa plays Blanka in the adaptation, while Noah Centineo is Ken Masters, Andrew Koji is Ryu and Callina Liang is Chun-Li. The cast also includes Joe 'Roman Reigns' Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film is based on the Street Fighter series that launched in 1987 and centers on intense one-on-one battles between martial artists, often tied to a global tournament organized by M. Bison, the leader of Shadaloo. The franchise has sold more than 55 million units worldwide since launch, which is why every new film version draws instant attention from fans and theater owners alike.
The trailer gives Paramount and Legendary something concrete to sell before CinemaCon, but the real test comes on October 16, when Street Fighter opens in theaters and finds out whether a packed cast and a familiar brand can turn game nostalgia into a box-office crowd.
