Ryan Reynolds said on April 19 that he has never been more proud of his wife, Blake Lively, as her legal fight with Justin Baldoni moved closer to trial. The actor made the comments during an interview on Today, days after a New York judge dismissed 10 of the 13 counts against Baldoni and his associates.
Reynolds did not name the case directly, but he pointed to the gap between public perception and what happens behind the scenes. “You really see kind of the illusion behind so much of this stuff, you know? Digital life versus real life,” he said, adding that people have “no idea what’s really going on.” He also said he had “never in my life been more proud of my wife” and described her as someone with “that level of integrity.”
The remarks land at a critical point in the blake lively justin baldoni lawsuit, which has been playing out in public since Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department on Dec. 20, 2024. In January, a representative for Reynolds said he had gotten involved and supported his wife during the film’s production, and on April 3 Lively posted a statement on Instagram Story saying the lawsuit was about retaliation and that she hoped the court’s decision would show others they can speak up.
The court’s ruling sharply narrowed the case. Lively’s remaining claims include retaliation, breach of contract and aiding and abetting retaliation, while Baldoni denies all allegations against him. His lawyer said on April 3 that the defense was “not afraid of the truth” and planned to show it through actual evidence.
That evidence will matter soon enough. The trial is scheduled to begin May 18, and the case will test not just the remaining claims but the competing public narratives around a dispute that has already moved from a film set to the courtroom. Reynolds, meanwhile, has four children with Lively — James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6 and Olin, 3 — and his comments made clear where he stands as the case heads into its next phase.
