Je’Von Evans is heading into his first WrestleMania with nerves, excitement and a title shot that he says still feels hard to believe. The 21-year-old will compete for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania against Penta, Rey Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Dragon Lee and Rusev.
Evans said wrestling at WrestleMania is nerve-wracking because it is the biggest show of the year and will likely be the largest crowd he has faced. He said a year ago he was basically opening for Mania week or Mania weekend, and now he is on the WrestleMania card, a leap that he said shows hard work pays off.
That rise has come quickly for Evans, who has moved onto the WWE main roster in short order and now finds himself in one of the event’s most crowded title matches. The Intercontinental title adds another layer to the debut, giving him a chance not just to appear at WrestleMania but to leave it with a championship.
Still, Evans is trying not to turn the moment into a stunt show. He said he does not want to go too crazy with his moves or keep trying to outdo himself every year, saying there is only so much he can do before age catches up with him. For him, the night is already enough: a blessing, an honor and a first WrestleMania that he says he is ready to feel before he tries to conquer it.
