Melissa Joan Hart turned 50 on Saturday with a milestone that came with a personal update: she says she has lost about 18 pounds over the past year and feels stronger than she has in a long time. The actor said she had not thought weight loss was still possible in midlife and during perimenopause, before a few changes in routine began to pay off.
Hart said fasting, cutting sugar and giving up alcohol were the game-changers. She said she has not had a drink in over a year and does not even enjoy drinking anymore, opting instead for club soda with lime or tea. “I actually feel stronger and better than I have in a really long time,” she said, adding, “I lost about 18 pounds last year.”
Her daily habits now reflect that reset. Hart said she starts the day with a vegetable-based protein shake with greens and fruit. Lunch often means a protein-rich meal with a large salad or soup, and dinner usually includes lean proteins such as chicken or beef with vegetables. She also said she replaces traditional pasta with vegetable-based alternatives, while remaining an avid gym-goer.
That routine sits alongside the broader frame Hart has put around her health. She said her weight loss unfolded during midlife and perimenopause, a stretch when many people expect the body to resist change rather than respond to it. Her comments also tie diet, exercise, skincare and overall wellbeing together as part of what she called a “longevity journey” that has been underway for two years.
There is still a flash of showmanship in how she talks about it. Hart posted a clip of herself doing push-ups with 15-pound weights while wearing heels and jeans, writing, “Fun new project I’m working on… and I asked for 15lb weights in my room to get my pump on… in my pumps,” She also said she uses sunscreen, moisturiser and vitamin C serums, and warned, “Sunscreen and moisturiser always. And do not sleep on your side,” as she said she fights chest wrinkles and “tech neck.”
For Hart, the headline is not only that she turned 50, but that she appears to have arrived there with a routine that fits her life now. She said she cut out what no longer worked, kept moving, and felt the difference. On her birthday weekend, that was the point she seemed most ready to make.
