The Last Of Us is bringing Vancouver’s vacant Hudson’s Bay store back to life for two days next week, with Season 3 set to shoot inside the 112-year-old landmark on April 9 and 10. The seven-storey building at Granville and Georgia streets has sat empty since June 2025, and the production will be among the first major uses of the space since it was left vacant.
The filming adds another jolt of activity to a property that has been sitting on the market for about four months, with pricing guidance set at $230 million. The building offers 600,000 square feet of floor space, including 70,000-square-foot floor plates, and its facade is protected by the city’s Heritage A designation.
For the show, the location fits a season that is expected to shift its focus onto Abby as she recounts the story from the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Kaitlyn Dever confirmed the season began shooting on March 3 under the working title Calm Current, and said fans would like the new direction because it gives more context to Abby’s storyline and goes back in time.
Patrick Wilson is set to portray Abby’s father Jerry, while Jason Ritter will appear as Washington Liberation Front soldier Hanley. The series is expected to keep filming until Nov. 27 and is slated to premiere sometime in 2027.
The series, adapted from the video game, takes place a couple of decades after civilization has been decimated by a fungal pandemic. Season 2 ended on a bloody cliffhanger, and season 3 has been rumoured to be the last instalment, which makes the Vancouver shoot more than a location change: it is part of the show’s push into its final stretch. The building sits above major underground transit routes, and seismic upgrading remains a challenge, leaving its long-term future unresolved even as cameras move in.
For now, though, the old Hudson’s Bay store has a new role. After months of vacancy, the landmark is getting a brief return to the center of downtown life, this time as a set for the last of us.
