is bringing to PS5 and PS4 on 21st April, giving subscribers access to the 2005 PlayStation 2 role-playing game through emulation. The release means the 20-Year-Old JRPG will finally be playable on current consoles with modern extras such as save states and rewind.

The game was published by Sony in Japan and licensed to in North America, where its original release arrived with two monsters removed. The European version also shipped with a number of progress-hindering bugs, leaving this reissue with a cleaner run at a release that never traveled perfectly the first time around.

Wild Arms 4 runs about 25 to 30 hours, which makes it one of the shorter JRPGs of its era, and it has kept a mixed reputation over the years. The story drew criticism, but the hexagonal grid-based battle system earned praise, and the series’ first three entries are already available in some form on the .

That matters because Sony has a habit of selling these retro titles separately as well, and the return of Wild Arms 4 could help open the door to Wild Arms 5. For now, the answer to the question hanging over this announcement is simple: the game is back, and it is arriving with enough polish to make the wait feel deliberate rather than accidental.
