Wendys said America would get free small fries and a Frosty on April 7 after a dunk in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship Game, turning a championship highlight into a one-day giveaway at U.S. restaurants.
The promotion, posted on X on April 6, sent fans rushing to the chain’s account and drew over a million views. Customers at participating Wendy's locations could ask for one free small fry with a small chocolate or vanilla Frosty in-restaurant only, with no purchase required.
The offer arrived the same day the Michigan Wolverines beat the Connecticut Huskies 69-63 to win their second national NCAA Tournament championship. For Michigan, it was the program’s first title since 1989, ending a run of near-misses after losses in the championship game in 1992, 1993, 2013 and 2018.

Wendys called the giveaway Free Dunks for America and tied it to a dunk in Monday’s game, echoing the announcer’s call that had fans replaying the clip online. The chain’s post captured the mood in blunt social-media style, saying it had a dunk and, because of that, all of America would get free small fry and Frosty on April 7.

The timing matters because the promotion lasts only one day and only in person, making it as much a reaction to a viral sports moment as a food deal. For customers, the window closes at the end of April 7; for Michigan, the win finally ends a 36-year wait for another national championship.
