Alexia Jayy won Season 29 of The Voice on Tuesday, April 14, closing out NBC’s Battle of Champions with a victory that matched the momentum she had built from the start. Her single “Rent Free” is set to arrive just after midnight on April 15 at 12 a.m. ET, giving the winner a fast follow-up as the season ends.
Jayy was guided by Adam Levine, who had already called her the best voice in the competition. Before she was crowned, the pair sang “Sunday Morning” together in the finale, a last-night duet that underscored how far she had traveled through the contest. Jayy’s path to the title included a Blind Audition performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” after which all three coaches turned their chairs. She then beat teammate Moses G with “Nightshift” in the Battle Round, later sang “You Give Good Love” in the Knockout Round and “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Loved You)” in the semifinals. In the finale, she returned with “Lady Marmalade” and “One and Only,” before taking the season crown over Team John Legend’s Lucas West and Team Kelly Clarkson’s Mikenley Brown and Liv Ciara.
What separates this win from a routine finale is the speed of what comes next. Xfinity introduced a new prize this season called an Artist Launch kit, and Jayy’s package includes her own home recording studio, along with a full year of Xfinity Internet and Mobile. For a singer who spent the season turning every round into a showcase, the prize gives her something immediate to work with once the confetti settles. “Rent Free,” which Jayy described as a song about knowing your worth and moving on even when someone keeps thinking about what they lost, is produced by Jack Splash and Jim Jonsin.
The season’s Battle of Champions framing gave the win a little extra shine, but the more revealing detail is how complete Jayy’s run was. She entered with all three coaches turning around, kept winning head-to-head rounds, and finished with a duet beside the coach who believed in her from the start. On Wednesday, the title turns into a recording session, a launch kit and a single release that will tell whether her victory was only a TV finish or the start of something bigger.
