Flooding forced HBO to shut down filming on season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in Gran Canaria, Spain, after heavy rain pushed water levels at the Las Niñas Dam to a 15-year high. The production had been moving on schedule until weather triggered sporadic suspensions, and people close to the show said the latest pause was not expected to derail the series for long.
The panic started online after Atlantico Hoy reported the shutdown Monday, but the reporting that followed pointed to a disruption, not a cancellation. Sources close to production told Polygon that the weather interruptions were temporary and that any suspension would likely last just a few weeks. That matters because HBO had already greenlighted season 2 before the first season aired in January 2026, a sign the company had planned for the show to keep moving.
Raúl García Brink said the production company had reserved the site through May, and he said parts of the sets would need cleanup after the flooding. The current season is a direct adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword, and the series is still working through a source library that remains unusually small. Only three published novellas exist in the Dunk and Egg saga, though showrunner Ira Parker has said Martin has shared outlines and ideas for many more stories.
HBO’s own comments in March fit that picture. Casey Bloys said at the time, “They’re shooting season two now,” and described the production footprint as smaller and easier to return to on an annual basis. That makes the weather damage annoying and expensive, but not structurally damaging to the rollout the network already put in place.
For now, the real answer is simpler than the internet rumor: the show has not been canceled, only interrupted. If the forecasts hold and the cleanup stays manageable, filming should resume after a short delay and the bigger question becomes whether the series can keep its pace toward the already planned fourth season and a 2027 horizon.
