Gothic 1 Remake will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 5 June 2026, giving the long-running fantasy role-playing series a new shot at a wider audience. The remake, developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, is rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and priced at $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on consoles.
The console edition comes with a free bonus: the original Gothic. A free prologue is also available across all launch platforms, and it is known as the Nyras Prologue. It does not include any main game content, but it offers players an early look at the world before the full release arrives.
That world is the Kingdom of Myrtana, where King Rhobar II orders the mining of magical ore to forge weapons against invading orcs. A mage then creates a barrier around the mine, only for the spell to trap the miners inside. Over time, the miners build their own lawless territory, setting up the remake’s central conflict.
For players who have been waiting on another major fantasy RPG, the timing gives Gothic 1 Remake a clear place in the conversation. The source material frames it as a rival experience for those still waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI, while the new version expands the original 2001 game with quests, side quests, environmental puzzles, NPCs, weapon upgrades and skill improvement.
There is also more under the hood than a visual overhaul. The remake adds extended questlines, new NPC routines and reactions, additional traversal abilities and a modernised combat system. Its synopsis says the King must negotiate with the new rulers as tensions rise among the mine’s factions, and that the arrival of an unknown prisoner will change everything. For now, the key date is fixed: 5 June 2026 is when Gothic 1 Remake reaches PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, with console buyers getting the original game alongside it.
