has turned up on the PlayStation Vita in an unofficial fan-made port that runs natively on the handheld rather than through emulation. A YouTube demonstration from showed the GameCube version of the game running on the system at full speed with correct audio and controls.

The port follows the successful decompilation of Animal Crossing earlier in the year, which also made the game accessible on PC. The series began on the 64 as before expanding over the years, but this version on ’s handheld is not an official release.

Anyone who wants to try it needs a hacked PlayStation Vita, the Animal Crossing PC port found on , and files from the GameCube original. Players must also create a ROM from the GameCube version before the port becomes playable, underscoring how far the project is from a plug-and-play download.

What makes the build stand out is how complete it appears. The Vita displays Animal Crossing in 16:9 even though the original GameCube title used a 4:3 aspect ratio, and the fact that it runs at full speed with the right sound and controls suggests the decompilation did more than preserve the game’s code — it opened the door for it to be rebuilt outside its home console. The tradeoff is simple: this is a totally unofficial project, and only users willing to modify their handheld and supply the original game files can get there.
