The standard Apple Iphone 18 is expected to arrive with virtually no change to its exterior design, even as Apple’s next lineup starts to take shape. A new leak says the base model may only get a minor tweak to its dimensions, while keeping the same 6.3-inch display size as the iPhone 17.
The update lands as Apple’s other upcoming phones remain the subject of more uncertainty. Fixed Focus Digital, a Weibo leaker that has previously said iPhone Air 2 would launch this fall alongside iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold, now says the Air 2 will proceed with its standard product iteration cycle. In the leaker’s latest post, the message was blunt: “Air 2 will proceed with its standard product iteration cycle.”
That matters because earlier reports had pointed in the other direction. The Information said iPhone Air 2 was being pushed until at least spring 2027, a delay it said would give Apple time to add a second rear camera. ’s Mark Gurman later agreed with the spring 2027 timing, though he was skeptical that a second camera would be added. Fixed Focus Digital’s new post suggests Apple is still moving ahead with a fall launch, keeping the model in the company’s usual rhythm.

If that timing holds, iPhone Air 2 would give Apple its typical four new models to launch, while the base iPhone 18 would not arrive until early 2027. That leaves the lineup split between a near-no-change standard phone and a thinner Air model that may be headed for only routine internal updates, not a redesign.
The fresh leak also cuts against earlier talk that all iPhone 18 models would get a smaller Dynamic Island. Other reports had said the reduced cutout would be limited to iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and this latest claim points in that same direction by leaving the standard model largely untouched. For now, the clearest picture is that Apple’s most basic next phone may look almost exactly like the one already on sale, while the bigger changes are reserved for the higher-end devices and the later base model refresh.

That makes the next few months unusually uneven for Apple’s phone strategy. One model appears stuck in place, another may be waiting for a longer cycle, and the company’s next meaningful design shift may have to wait until early 2027.
