3.5% amazon seller fuel surcharge will be applied to third-party sellers using Amazon’s fulfillment services. Amazon calls the charge temporary and says it is lower than surcharges from other major carriers. The fee begins April 17 for many Fulfillment by Amazon sellers and takes effect May 2 for Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment.
Fulfillment by Amazon April 17
Fulfillment by Amazon will see the 3.5% surcharge applied to sellers in the U.S. and Canada, Amazon said, making the change a direct cost on orders that use the company’s fulfillment network. The levy is positioned as temporary and is intended to recover part of higher operating costs after Amazon said it had absorbed elevated expenses so far.
Buy with Prime May 2
Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment sellers will have the surcharge applied starting May 2, per Amazon’s schedule. "Elevated costs in fuel and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry," Amazon said, framing the move as a partial cost-recovery step rather than a permanent fee change.

U.S. Postal Service 8% Surcharge
U.S. Postal Service announced an 8% fuel surcharge on packages starting April 26, with that surcharge slated to remain in place until Jan. 17 2027, creating a benchmark carriers are using to justify extra fees. UPS and FedEx have also raised their fuel surcharges, and Amazon described its surcharge as "meaningfully" lower than surcharges applied by other major carriers.
Amazon said sellers subject to the change should expect the charge to appear on fulfilled orders processed through the named services; the company added, "We remain committed to our selling partners’ success and to maintaining broad selection and low prices for customers." Amazon has not provided an end date for its 3.5% surcharge in the statement, leaving the duration unclear.
Sellers affected should immediately confirm which selling programs they use and model a 3.5% incremental cost into their pricing or margins where applicable. Amazon’s schedule gives concrete dates—April 17 for many Fulfillment by Amazon sellers and May 2 for Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment—so sellers can run targeted scenarios and check Amazon account notifications for fee confirmations.
