Dolly Martinez has died at 30, and a family member confirmed the news on Saturday, April 11, after saying earlier that Martinez was in the hospital and fighting for her life. Lindsey Cooper asked for prayers and privacy as the family went through what she called a hard time.
Cooper said in a Facebook post that she shared the passing of her “beautiful sister” with a heavy heart. She later added that Martinez had the brightest personality, could light up a room with her laughter and kindness, and made everyone feel special. At the time of publication, no cause of death had been publicly shared.
Martinez was known to viewers from season 10 of My 600-Lb. Life, which premiered in 2021. At the beginning of her episode, she weighed just under 600 pounds and was on supplemental oxygen. She met with bariatric surgeon Dr. Now, moved to Houston to be closer to his office and lost 40 pounds, but she was not approved for the weight-loss procedure.
Her story stood out because Martinez spoke bluntly about how she saw food as a refuge from pain. She said on the series that food was her go-to drug, the only thing powerful enough to distract her from darker thoughts, and something that made her happy even as it fed the illness that shaped her life. That contradiction — comfort and harm in the same place — defined much of her appearance on the show.
The unanswered question now is not how Martinez became known, but what took her life so young. Her family has asked for privacy, and until more is shared, her death leaves only the outline of a woman whose struggle was public, but whose final hours were not.
