ripped open his shirt on and revealed a tattoo of on his chest, sending into a collapse of laughter at the desk.

The cut-for-time sketch aired Saturday with Day and playing A Guy and His Girlfriend Who's Always Cold, a setup that had Day peeling off layer after layer to keep her warm before the tattoo reveal landed. Jost and were at the desk when Day flashed the ink and deadpanned, “Well, this is awkward,” before adding, “I have a tattoo of your wife and I'm sorry.” He then tried to soften the blow with, “I'm a fan! I got it before you were married! I didn't know I'd be taking my shirt off, baby!”

After the hosts signed off, Jost came back to ask Day about the tattoo, extending a bit that turned one of the show’s most familiar running jokes into the center of the sketch. It was another moment in a long pattern on Weekend Update, where Che and Jost regularly trade raunchy jokes that land on Johansson, and Jost has learned to play along rather than stare them down.

That background mattered again recently when Che joked during a segment about the that “The winners of the annual Wife Carrying contest in England was a couple from Finland,” and then added, “while once again, the winner of the Husband Carrying contest was Scarlett Johansson.” Jost replied, “We both put food on the table… They're different kinds of food.” The latest sketch pushed the same joke one step further, with Day literally wearing the punchline on his chest and Jost left laughing before he could do much else.

For Jost, the bit worked because it hit the balance the show has built around him for years: the joke is about his marriage, but the target is the absurdity of making it a public running gag. Saturday's reveal did not change that setup. It just gave the audience a new way to watch him lose it.
