Callan McAuliffe, best known for playing Alden in The Walking Dead, has joined the cast of Deluxe Ocean View, a psychological horror film now shooting in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He plays Ethan Everett, a renowned exposé journalist whose career is hanging by a thread when he heads to a nearly deserted luxury resort on the icy Massachusetts coast in the dead of winter.
The film gives McAuliffe a sharp turn from undead walking territory into a story built on isolation, paranoia and the threat of exposure. Camryn Manheim plays Vera, the mysterious owner of the resort; Ray Campbell is Oliver, the watchful manager; Henry Ian Cusick plays Simon, described as morally complex; and Ryan Powers appears as Johnny, an elusive drifter.
Production on Deluxe Ocean View is officially underway after the project had been quietly in development, and that matters because the setting is not just a backdrop. The resort may be a malevolent force that draws out the darkest secrets of the people who arrive there, turning a winter getaway into the kind of place where no one can keep control for long.
That is the film’s real hook: Ethan goes in as a journalist trying to salvage a career, but the resort seems built to strip away the version of himself he wants to protect. If Deluxe Ocean View lands as intended, the question is not whether the house has secrets. It is whether it can make its guests confess theirs before they find a way out.
