R.J. Decker stepped into a new case Tuesday night when “Burn Notice,” the fifth episode of season 1, aired on ABC from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. The episode, listed as Episode 105, was also set to stream the next day on Hulu.
In the hour, R.J. digs into a case involving a Little League coach whose loved ones are being mysteriously threatened, a setup that puts his methods under renewed scrutiny from his parole officer. Scott Speedman leads the series as R.J. Decker, with Jaina Lee Ortiz as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, Bevin Bru as Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu, Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken and Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix.
The episode arrives as part of ongoing season 1 coverage for photos and episode information on the 20th Television production, which is overseen by showrunner and executive producer Rob Doherty. Carl Hiaasen, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and Paul McGuigan also serve as executive producers. It follows season 1 episode 4, “In Vanity Veritas,” and keeps the series moving through the kind of casework that blends a local mystery with R.J.’s own trouble.

That mix is what gives “Burn Notice” its edge. The coach’s threatened family raises the stakes, but the real pressure comes from the fact that R.J.’s approach is still drawing notice from the people watching him most closely. By the end of the episode, the question is not whether the case matters, but whether he can keep solving it without putting his own situation back in jeopardy.
