Austin’s long stretch of nice weather is ending as spotty showers and storms were expected late on April 11 and into the evening, with rain totals staying under a half inch. Not everyone was expected to get wet, and the first round was forecast to stay below severe limits.
Keep those umbrellas handy as the nice weather streak is coming to an end, forecasters said, because multiple rounds of rain and storms were expected through the weekend and beyond. The highest rain and storm chances were expected on Friday, Sunday and next Tuesday as three different Pacific lows moved toward Texas.
Most of the rain was expected to hold off until after 3 p.m. during the weekend, and the forecast called for 1 to 3 inches over the next 7 days. The heaviest rain and the main severe weather risk were tied to the arrival of those lows, though the severe threat for late Sunday and again next Tuesday was still being worked out.

That is a classic spring setup for Central Texas, with western lows providing lift along the dryline and opening the door to repeated rounds of rain. Keep those umbrellas handy as the wait is over and the nice weather streak is coming to an end.

The question now is not whether Austin gets wetter, but how much of the rain arrives with the stronger storms when the later Pacific lows pass through. The early round was expected to be light and spotty; the bigger test comes as the weekend and next week unfold.
