Hulu will release the second season of Deli Boys on May 28, and Kumail Nanjiani has joined the cast in a recurring role as Fred Armisen’s defense lawyer. Andrew Rannells will play an ambitious district attorney, while Robin Thede is set to appear as a couples therapist.
The new casting gives the series another turn through the legal and personal fallout around Mir and Raj Dar, the privileged Pakistani American brothers at the center of the show. Nanjiani’s character lands on Armisen’s side of the fight, with Armisen signed on in August to play Max Sugar, a legendary gambler who presides over an international casino empire.
Deli Boys follows Mir and Raj, played by Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh, after they learn their father lived a secret life of crime. The comedy has been built around the chaos that follows that discovery, and the second season looks set to widen that world rather than settle it.
Lily Singh will also guest star as Aisha, the wife of Maalik Ali, played by Shahjehan Khan, and the character becomes fixated on Raj. Singh’s return to scripted television comes after her run hosting A Little Late with Lily Singh on NBC from 2019 to 2021.
The new season now has a clear shape: a defense lawyer, a district attorney, a casino boss and a therapist all pushing into the same story at once. When Deli Boys returns in late May, the brothers will not just be dealing with their father’s legacy. They will be fighting a wider and more organized world built around it.
