Salvador opens influenza vaccination room in shopping center until May 22

Salvador opened a room dedicated to influenza vaccination at Salvador Norte Shopping in the São Cristóvão neighborhood on Monday, May 11, adding a new option for people in priority groups seeking the immunizer. The service is running on floor L2, near the store, from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and is scheduled to continue until May 22.

The vaccination point is exclusively for people in the priority group aged 12 and older, including puérperas, teachers of basic and higher education, public safety and rescue workers, urban and long-distance public transport workers, employees of the prison system, adolescents and young people from 12 to 21 years old under socio-educational measures, and people with chronic noncommunicable diseases and other special clinical conditions. Anyone outside those groups must seek one of the other 162 vaccination rooms spread across the capital of Bahia.

The said the initiative is meant to widen access to the vaccine and reinforce protection during the period of greater circulation of respiratory viruses. The move folds a mall-based service into the city’s broader vaccination network, a practical adjustment that matters most now, when more people are looking for fast access to shots and the calendar for this temporary site is already set.

That same urgency has made vaccination access a recurring political and public health issue across the region, from Salvador’s own health drive to broader debates elsewhere in Latin America, including coverage of El Salvador opens mass trial of 486 alleged MS-13 members and Nayib Bukele backs life imprisonment as El Salvador deepens crackdown. In Salvador, though, the issue is immediate and local: the city has opened another door for eligible residents, but only for a limited time and only for those who meet the rules.
