Pete Davidson says fatherhood has already changed the way he moves through the world. The 32-year-old comic said his daughter Scottie, whom he and Elsie Hewitt welcomed last December, is now five months old and already trying to talk.
Speaking Sunday at a live taping of The Pete Davidson Show podcast at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, Davidson said Scottie is doing tummy time, is “really, really communicative” and will “talk all day,” even if it mostly comes out as “la.” He said he and his daughter talk all day, called her “cute and chunky” and said parenthood has been “really awesome” and “so much fun.”
That new routine has also softened a longtime pressure point. Davidson said he has been less concerned about people pleasing since becoming a dad, adding that if he can do everything else, that is great, but if not, he gets to hang out with Scottie. He also said the baby was conceived in Scotland.
The name Scottie carries a family link that runs back to Davidson’s father, Scott Davidson, a firefighter who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks of 9/11. Davidson and Hewitt said they chose the name because it was the most meaningful, and Hewitt said she wanted to include “a little special part” of her family in it as well. In the same source, John Mulaney said his daughter Mei is very expressive, dances when any song is turned on and loves food so much, a reminder that the newest round of celebrity parenthood is as ordinary as it is personal. The bigger question for Davidson is answered by his own words: fatherhood has not pulled him away from his work, but it has clearly reordered what matters when the microphone goes off.
