Kelly Ripa spent Mother's Day with McDonald's, a family dinner that came straight from her youngest son, Joaquin, and landed on the May 11 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. Ripa said two of her three kids were home, and the meal turned into a fast-food reunion on a holiday usually marked by something else.
Backstage at his Broadway show Death of a Salesman, Joaquin texted his mother about the idea, and Ripa said yes. "This is so unlike us, it hasn't happened in years and years," she said, adding, "I thought it would be fun if we had McDonald's for your birthday." When she corrected herself with, "Uhh, it's not my birthday," she followed with, "I mean Mother's Day, you know what I mean!" and "And so we had McDonald's!"
Ripa said the dinner included a Big Mac and large fries, and she called the meal delicious. Mark Consuelos confirmed McDonald's was on the table, though he had his own doubts about the size of the sandwich. "I have to say, the Quarter Pounder, I have to weigh that. I'm not sure it's a Quarter Pounder," he said. Ripa answered, "Also, the Big Mac seems small too," and Consuelos joked, "Maybe we're just bigger now," before she added, "Maybe we're bigger and it used to seem bigger."
The exchange fit the easy rhythm of a family holiday at home, but it also showed just how far the meal was from the usual Mother's Day playbook in their house. Ripa said McDonald's for Mother's Day had not happened in years and years, which made Joaquin's text feel less like a routine dinner suggestion and more like the one thing that could pull the family into a different kind of celebration.
The only practical question left was cleanup, and Ripa handled that with the same comic shrug she used for the rest of the meal, mimicking throwing one thing away as she talked it through.
