Santa Monica Studio is officially working on a new God of War title, and the rumors around the franchise now stretch far beyond that one project. The latest wave of chatter points to a God of War: Trilogy Remake starring TC Carson as the original Kratos voice actor, alongside speculation about at least one other installment in the series.
The remake was officially revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play in February, the same event that also unveiled God of War: Sons of Sparta, a 2D platformer described as a prequel to the whole franchise. But the louder conversation since then has been about what Santa Monica may be building next, and whether the studio is preparing more than one return to the series at once.
That talk is not new. It has been rumored for months that Santa Monica Studio is working on at least two new God of War installments, including a next mainline game that could be set in Egypt and a separate spin-off centered on Faye. Faye, Kratos’ second wife and the mother of Atreus, appeared in God of War: Ragnarök, which gave the character a larger presence in the modern-era story.
Gaming insider NateTheHate was one of the first to say in March that Faye would be the main character of a new God of War game, adding that the gameplay would differ from the Norse-era titles. He also said an announcement was expected this year and that release was expected in the first half of 2027. In a recent Bluesky exchange, Cory Barlog appeared to lend support to the idea that someone was targeting NateTheHate for revealing unannounced projects, a sign of how sensitive the conversation around the franchise has become.
Last month, MP1st added another layer to the speculation, reporting that the Faye-focused game would explore East Asian mythology and serve as a prequel to God of War. The outlet also said Kratos is still expected to appear in a cameo role, while Faye would use Merlin, a talking sword, and fight alongside a companion described as a gelatinous cube. That is a long way from anything Santa Monica has publicly confirmed, but it has given the rumors unusual texture.
The franchise is also spreading beyond games. Amazon is developing a TV show based on God of War and God of War: Ragnarök, and the series is currently in production. For now, the clearest answer is that Santa Monica is not done with the world of God of War — it is expanding it, and if the current reporting holds up, the next round could arrive in more than one form and more than one timeline.
