John Cena is set to appear at his second consecutive WWE premium live event on Saturday night in Tampa, Florida, and this time he is promising a reveal that reaches far beyond the ring. The former champion posted a video on his X account Thursday saying he has a major announcement inside the building in a few days, and that it will shock “the very foundation of WWE.”
Cena’s video came with a pointed promise. He said the announcement would shake WWE “from its fans to its superstars, its champions down to its rookies,” language that immediately put Backlash in the spotlight before the bell even rings. Backlash is scheduled for Benchmark International Arena at 6 p.m. ET and will air on programming.
The backdrop matters because Cena’s own role in WWE has changed sharply over the past year. His in-ring career ended in December when he lost to Gunther on Saturday Night’s Main Event, but WWE has kept him visible through major tentpole appearances. He was announced as the host for WrestleMania 42 and appeared in Las Vegas for that event to announce the attendance, welcome Bianca Belair for her pregnancy revelation and take part in a segment with Danhausen, The Miz and Kit Wilson.
WWE has been teasing Club WWE as a new fan feature for months, and the company announced the launch of the program in April. A gold Club WWE membership would offer fans exclusive 24-hour ticket presale access, a members-only WWE Shop, bonus WWE content, a community forum, a rewards system and a welcome back for founding members. Cena, in the video, said he was grateful Tampa was allowing him to make the announcement and added that “our fans are the heartbeat of WWE, and everything we do begins with them.”
That makes his latest tease feel less like a one-off surprise and more like the company tying its biggest name of the moment to a planned push aimed directly at its audience. Cena also described Club WWE as a way to turn that connection into something larger, calling it a premium destination built to reward passion and give dedicated fans a meaningful way to engage with WWE all year round. For now, the answer to what he will announce is already narrowing: Backlash is where WWE appears ready to unveil how it wants its fans inside the tent, and Cena is the face chosen to deliver the message.
